Never had any problems or signs of slipping. Went to start bush hogging for the first time this year. Went to back-up and nothing. Came back with flashlight to see if linkage may have came loose. Didn't see anything. Started it back up and it drove fine until getting to the incline going out of field. (Only starts to happen when warmed up and after depressing clutch) At first I thought it was the throw-out bearing sticking and not allowing clutch to return to engaged. Call me "stupid" but had never owned, or heard of, shuttle shift forward and reverse only higher/lower gears and have always used the clutch to change directions on the M9000. As best I can tell, it seems the clutch is working. I'm reading that the fluid grade may be my problem as I had a hydraulic hose burst and replaced with fluid available about 20 hours ago. Am I on the right track and should replace fluids and filters? Or might it be something that needs more attention. I don't want to over heat and blue a clutch.

If it has a hydro clutch then yes putting the wrong fluid in it will fry or destroy the clutch, change all the fluid and filters and see if it fixes or improves it's operation. ;)

Does your tractor have sync-shuttle or hyd shuttle? Hyd shuttle can be shifted without depressing foot pedal

Not sure, I bought used about 400 hrs ago w/total 1600 hrs. I've never tried to shift w/o depressing clutch. (I guess that put me into the "old-timers" way of habits) I did go try it a bit yesterday and could feel tractor trying to move forward as I began to pressure shifting arm into "forward," but did not pressure it enough to be successful in a complete engagement. All without any grinding of gears.

As to Wolfman, I used std. hydraulic fluid I use in other equipment.

W/O any other posts, I'm guessing that the Hydraulic fluid type is the answer everyone agrees with. Will another brand (other than Kubota hydraulic fluid)) be recommended. I already had a set of filters. Is there anything, (bleeding etc.) that will need to be performed or to watch? Will I need an additional set of hands?

Ok, I changed the fluid and filters. Ran w/o slipping until warm and depressed clutch and again slipping. When I was draining fluid, the front drain plug was completely dry (could strike a match on it dry). Did not take the complete specified quantity fluid to get the "full" line.

The front drain plug, if it was under the clutch is not a drain plug it's a weep plug it allows water in the clutch housing to leak out, so dry on it is good.

I think your wasting your money till you find out if it has a manual shift shuttle or a hydraulic shift shuttle, they have totally different operations and fluids and other factors will effect each differently.

Put the brush hog on, let it get warmed up, with the PTO engaged and go up a hill, if the PTO and the tractor both slow down it's the mechanical clutch that is slipping if the PTO stays completely up to speed and the tractor slows then it has a hydraulic clutch and it's slipping. ;)

Performed the PTO check as advised. Tractor slows but PTO stays running. Needed to change hydraulic filters anyway. Adjusted the pedal a bit to make sure it was coming all the way off, but didn't affect the slipping after it warmed up. Pretty sure I'm just pushing against the syncro rings when trying to push leaver into forward/reverse. Pretty sure it's the clutch but didn't want to send to the shop if it's something simple. My disability won't allow me to do this work and will have to have it done. Is this something I could have my dozier mechanic can do with confidence? He thinks so but I don't want to end up with more troubles than I already have. The good shop is 1 1/2 hours away.

Thanks,
Brent

It will say on the side of the hood if it's a hydraulic shuttle.

Wolfman, I see where you're going with the PTO hill side test but the M9000 has Live Independent PTO.
