M6950DT PTO Clutch

PTO Clutch never really disengages even with my switch in OFF position. If there is something with high enough load on the pto shaft (round baler) it will stop spinning - but not low load (a snowblower in the air). I've also got big time metal shavings in my filter. I'm thinking the pto clutch is shredded and the brake band might be causing the shavings. I have the service manual although it's not the most clear and I can't really find info online on servicing pto clutch. Just looking for some advice if anyone has opened one up.

You can pull the PTO control valve and be able to see the brake band.

Thanks, I will try that. Looks like a pain to replace the pto clutch pack.

I have pulled the pto control valve and disassembled the hydraulic pumps, they do not show large indication of wear. I looked inside transmission case with borescope, and do not see any damaged teeth or bearings.
The trans case sump is full of fine metal shavings that are not draining. I have tried flushing with diesel. Any advice on a better way to get this metal sludge out?
While the shavings could be coming from an area I can’t see on the scope, I know the previous owner changed the hydraulic pump and I wonder if the metal shavings are remnants of that.
Another possibility is that 3 of the 4 female hydraulic quick couplers at the rear no longer have the cup and ball. Both were in place when I connected the discbine but were gone when I unhooked.

The sludge is probably the brake band lining.
Diesel or any other solvent in the sump is a REALLY BAD idea!

Any ideas other than splitting the tractor to clean it out ?

Run some cheap hydraulic oil through it to flush as much stuff as you can out, then just replace the Hydraulic filter and oil with good, and keep up with filter changes.
