The transmission in my 2005 M6800 is gone!
My dealer says it’s approx $15,000 to rebuild.
Sounds very high to me. Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation?
Thanks

Welcome to OTT
What is wrong with trans? Is it making noise when gears are turning or is it locked up? Was it operated with low oil level? Is it an open station or cab model?

That would be my question too. Need more details of exactly how it acted, and whether failure was gradual or abrupt. Get someone to look at it who knows gear transmissions with a shuttle. If its a cab tractor, breakdown labor is a significant factor, but individual parts are available if something is broken.

Basically here is what happened.
My caretaker towed the tractor several miles in neutral but with 4wd engaged. Kubota Dealer say he has never seen a transmission damaged so bad.He says it will be around $15,000 to rebuild.

By chance do you have comprehensive insurance on this M6800? If so it might be covered by insurance.

The range selector would want to be in neutral too. Otherwise towing would back-spin several shafts in the transmission. Without normal oil flow in the gearbox I'd guess many parts could be affected towing it several miles.

This would be considered mechanical breakdown and most insurance policies would not cover this in my opinion. ( I am in the insurance business). I don't buy insurance on this machine since it is older.

It was towed about 5 miles.

Tractor will move but the selector is stuck between high and low.

I was told he was riding on the tractor while going down the road and he felt a pop. Maybe he was pulling it too fast and it jumped into gear.

My caretaker is 100% honest and has been farming longer than I have been alive. He has towed his machines before and never had a problem.

I have had 2 other dealers tell me $15,000 was about right for a complete rebuild using oem parts. It is a rops tractor.

At $15000 for repair I think I'd send the M6800 to salvage yr & buy another tractor. Have you checked salvage yard for used complete trans? If a failed brg on a rd baler causes a fire isn't the fire caused by a mechanical failure?

A fire would be a covered cause of loss so all the resulting damaged would be covered as well.

In my case a mechanical issue caused the problem which is not covered by most policies.

I am going to buy a new machine.
