As another newbie here I am looking for advice. Been in the market for a good used tractor and I think I have found one. It's a M5700DT 4wd FEL and cab. price is in the low 20's. Tractor has a little over 1300 hrs. I'm pretty sure it has the mechanical shuttle. Any items I need to be aware of when I go to see it or things to look for that would indicate any possible problems? From all the info I can find they are a great tractor. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The price seems about where it should be. Tractor house has 1 for sale with cab and it's $25K with a few more hrs than what you're looking at.

Things I would look for:
Has it been painted? If so what are they hiding?
Does it have any oil leaks? How do the hyd lines look? Cracks, signs of wear, ect...
How does the clutch feel? Correct free travel.
Does it have service records?
What has the tractor been used for? A lot of times the tractor may look good but the pto has been beat to death. Will they let you use the tractor to test the pto performance?
Does it start good? Check the amount of blow-by.
Do all the gauges work?

Why are they selling? Did they upgrade or does it have hidden problems? Obviously the list could go on and on but these are a few things I would want to know about before jumping on a new machine.

To add to what bulldog has said, Tires are also a good indicator of use or abuse.
If there is light wear, and no cuts or scrapes then it was probably well maintained.

Update

I did buy the tractor, should be delivered next week. Tractor had new rear tires installed at a Kubota dealer as well as filters when it was traded in, ( I actually purchased it from an equipment dealer) Tractor seemed in good shape inside and out and paint not faded, i'm thinking it was likely kept indoors. Motor started easily on a low 20 degree morning when I went to look at it. Everything seemed to work as it should. Looking forward to getting it in the driveway and putting it to use.

Re: Update

Nice looking tractor. I would love one that size for a middle tractor. Looks like original owner spent some extra $$$. I see it has right side mirror and rear wiper, both are options. Unless it was just removed I would ask them about the SMV sign, it came with one from the factory on the left fender.

My guess from the looks of it you found a great machine. It looks almost like a brand new one. Happy tractoring.
