I have an 1996 M5040 2wd no cab. The hazard lights and taillights are mounted on the top side of the rear fenders on a metal bracket that also holds the fenders up. A co-worker told me about an extra wire there that was hot when the ignition switch was on. I used this wire on each side to power two led lights to the rear. Everything worked fine for several months then all of a sudden all the switches went haywire. My dash lay out has a push button for the hazards and one for the work lights to the right of the steering wheel. To the left of the steering wheel is the dial switch for the head lights and blinkers. With the ignition switch in the on position (with all others switches in the off position) The light shines in the hazard switch and the flasher under the dash clicks, however the flasher lights don't work but the led's blink. This is the only time the led's will work. No lights work on the front and with the engine running and the light switch on ( switch on the left side) the engine doesn't die when ignition is turned off. I have replaced the hazard switch and the ignition switch with no results. I haven't found any ground wires loose or any signs of rat damage. Sorry for the long post any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Step one, if I was in your shoes, would be to remove the LED lights completely. In effect restore your tractor to factory condition. If the problem disappears, you know the problem is in the LED lights.

There are a lot of electronic components associated with LED light assemblies and you could have something starting to fail.

I did unplug the led's and while I had the bracket loose from the fender I disconnected the hazard lights as well as the taillights. I went ahead and disconnected the plug under the hood going to the headlights. I turned the ignition switch on and had the same thing. Light in hazard switch come on (shines dim) and the flasher clicked under the dash. I'm assuming it's the flasher I'm hearing. Could it be one of the many relays under the dash?

See if this material from a WSM is any help.

If you are not used to following this type of checking, just ask.

You should have a cheap multimeter and test light
