I have a M5040 and currently not able to be at the property but every 6 months or so and this last trip was 18 months. When I looked around the barn I noticed a wet spot under the tractor. It was dry but the stain was still there. When I checked the fuel the tank was empty. I put 5 gallons in it and it started fine and no visible leaks. I cut grass for a couple of hours and noticed a small drip on the bottom of the fuel tank. When I put the tractor back in the barn I put a drip pan under the fuel tank. The next morning no evidence of any leakage. This was in December and the Temps were pretty cold at least for Texas so if there is a crack, the cold weather may make the crack smaller and expand during the summer causing complete spillage. There is no evidence of any damage on the bottom of the tank but it is also covered by a metal plate so without removing that who knows. Has anyone seen a leak like this?

You aint been there in 18 months??? Well krist thats easy,,, the poor thing wet it self not being about to go out and play,, ok Im done being a smart arse,, Really you need to pull the plate off and look at the fittings from the tank that would be my first bet that there is a loose fitting or a line that maybe rubbed through enough to let a small amount seep out. But if your only useing it that much and theres no other issues I wouldnt worry,, But if ya want I would b glad to give her a good home for the next ohhhhh 40 years or so

Unfortunately I was transitioning from Iraq to Afghanistan and was not able to take an R&R until the 18 month point. I should be back every 6 months or so for awhile now. I'm coming back in the July time frame to escape the heat here and will try to remove the plate on the bottom of the fuel tank. I may purchase a Service Manual so I can see what may be under the steel plate.

In these parts where it really does get cold it is not uncommon for tank fittings hoses etc to leak. Everything contracts and connections leak. I have had plastic tanks leak too from flaws in the plastic so you will just have to track it down:D
