Hi, I'm new to the forum but figure I'll be a regular. I did a search for this and didn't come up with anything helpful. I recently traded for an old M4050DT and it has a few issues that I'm working on. When I lift the PTO clutch disengage lever and then try to engage the live pto theres a pretty bad grind before it engages. I'm thinking the PTO clutch may need adjusted but haven't had to do this on a Kubota. I went to order a service manual and was surprised to find they were over $100. I plan on ordering one but was hoping to put if off for a while if possible. I was wanting to see if what I am thinking is right on the clutch adjustment or if it may be something else. Also if the clutch does need adjustment could somebody walk me through doing it with all the specs I need for the adjustment. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Are you pushing the pedal down before you engage the PTO?
Because you're writing doesn't say that.
And if your doing it in the correct order, Clutch pedal down, engage PTO, release clutch pedal, then no amount of clutch adjustment is going to cure a grind issue.
Sounds like something is bad, ( bearing or one way clutch).

The M4050 has an additional lever that to the best of my understanding according to the operators manual works a secondary clutch for just PTO. Raise the lever and it disengages the pto clutch then engage the pto lever and then put the lever for the pto clutch back into the engaged position. According to the operators manual the foot clutch has nothing to do with the pto engagement process. Also according to the parts breakdown this is a dual disc clutch system with the rear being the PTO clutch so in that case when you engage that lever if it is not adjusted correctly it will not apply enough pressure to disengage the pto clutch. I know there are adjustments for the secondary clutch on other tractor brands because I have adjusted them for similar reasons and I would imagine this one is the same way, usually the adjustments have to be within a few 10 thousandths. Im just not sure what the specs are supposed to be for this tractor

I see where I'm off on this.
That is an odd model that uses 2 means of running the clutch pack, one pedal for the drive and one lever for the PTO clutch section.
Get the WSM (AKA service manual) and it will go through how to adjust the linkage on the Clutch and the clutch pack.

A neighbour has an M4050DT, and the PTO clutch lever/engagement system looks exactly the same as my M4500DT. Here's how the M4500DT manual says to do it.

Do you know the part numbers for the pto clutch lever with the mounting Block and the rod linkage
Good place to find those is the Messicks website parts list for your model of tractor. The images are pretty clear, you can probably identify and order them at the same time. Or try Barlow Equipment - advertising on this forum.
