I currently have a B7100HST that I use for food plotting about 4 acres a year, along with cutting/maintaining trails. I sold off another tractor/tiller combo to finance a tiller for the 7100, but now have been thinking a little different. I'm managing an overgrown 80 acre farm for deer hunting. It hasn't been farmed in over 20 years. My plans this year are to reclaim a few areas and plant +- 5 acres of switchgrass for bedding and about the same amount in food plots. Cut in late winter, spray gly on greenup in the spring, then till and plant. That has led me to look at larger tractors that could handle a decent set of discs, a 6' brush hog, and the 13 row McCormick planter I fixed up last year. My budget is $6-7k and I found the M4050 2wd local that fits the budget. Haven't gone to look, but it has 3400 hours and looks in decent shape. I would think a 50hp/45pto would be plenty for what I'm looking to do and figure about 40-60 hours/year of use. I know this was a short production run, but also the 6 cyl diesel is pretty intriguing. My grandfather farmed the property for many years with IH tractors, all 2wd and some tricycles, so although 4wd would be nice, the amount of use will be low unless I decide to do some haying in the future. So, any feedback on the 4050 and what I'm intending to do? I'm pretty confident I could 'get by' with my 7100, but looking for a little more power and options for the future. Thanks.

Conversations linked to a tractordata engine-search/web-lookup shows a thread here on OTT about similarities of the S2600 engine used on the M4050 with the S2200 engine and interchangeability of parts such as fuel injection pump, dipsticks, etc.... so if you look at that tractor you might be prepared not to be surprised if you see S2200 dataplates on it. Good luck (I’ve only heard good things about that 6-cylinder.)

Thanks for the info, I found the thread. The data plate on the frame shows "S2600-AL", but that's all I can see right now. Good info though if I pick it up.
