I know there have been fairly recent posts about this subject. But not exactly the same engine, but on other Kubota engines.
I was kindly pointed to fishfarmer and I read all of his posts and have been messaging with him separately about his experiences working on his M4500, which is basically the same as the M4050. I own both tractors, one is 2wd the others is a DT.
I am posting here primarily so others can learn from my experience, but also I am happy to gain experience from others if they have wisdom to share and just as happy to ignore the negatives opinions about what I did or I am doing.
Basics:
Not original owner, I don’t know how many people owned the tractor before me, but I think only one. 750 hrs if gauge is original, I think it is because the tractor is tight.
all fluids and filter changed on coming back to my farm (Kubota filters)
Oil light would come on after the engine oil was warm/hot and engine brought down idle. I know in the book it says this is OK but it still seemed strange so I put a gauge on it. Gauge was reading between 7 and 10 psi at idle and 25 at warm/hot oil - pto rpm. Cool/cold oil 56 psi. Parked it.
checked oil relief valve on filter housing- seems OK
Change the oil filter again - no change
Dropped oil pan cleaned the strainer and change the O-ring gained 8 to 10 psi
Changed oil pump and orings in gear case/ front cover - no change.

I know I have more troubleshooting to do. Enjoy the videos below.
