But my problem is the shop manual is for a 2wd transmission, not a 4wd.
The lever to engage the 4wd seems to have taken the place where the hydraulic suction filter would be.
Is the hydraulic suction filter under this lever assembly or maybe behind?
It is there, and a pain to get at, because of the 4WD selector,
I would remove the left rear wheel and then
the linkage (in yellow) needs to be removed also,
then you can get at the cover plate (in red) to remove the filter.

Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other questions.

Had the same problem! You can reach it without taking the wheel off. I did have to remove the pinned linkage. You have to stick your head really far under the tractor and look up. It's very hard to see and I really had to maneuver my arms to get under there. Putting it on was a pain as well because that cover is spring loaded. On second thought maybe removing the wheel would have been easier [emoji38]

Here was my thread on it.

Yes it's doable with the rear wheel on, but that's a big old hunk of steel and rubber
to have to work around, and while getting that big old hunk of steel and rubber
on and off isn't Fun, sometimes it makes the job easier.:D

Thank you so much! The pictures help out a lot! I'm a total tractor newby. I got my B1500 in a trade and have really enjoyed it. I've never owned a tractor before and wasn't around them as a kid. I'm in uncharted waters here. Ha! I'm really grateful to all the contributors on this forum. You guys are the best!

Ok, now back to reading!

God Bless!

It's a L1500. She has been modified some (front end loader and support brackets welded on)

I tried to link a picture of her... I don't know if it worked.

Thank you! The font end loader hides some of her flaws. :) I'm very happy with it. She is strong and a little work horse.

Update! Over the weekend I was able to drain the transmission/hydraulic fluid and clean the suction filter. (I worked around the back tire.) It wasn't super dirty, but it did need cleaning. After reassembly and 4.8 gal. of fluid, her hydraulics are running great! Thanks for the assist!:D

Awesome! How did the fluid look? Didn't need to change it all? The fluid that came out of my diff was like mud! Out of the trans it just had a little water in it.

I'm thinking since you just put in 4.8 gal you didn't drain rear diffs.

I was only able to drain one of the diffs (left). The bolt head was totally rounded off (right). :( . The fluid wasn't too bad in the trans. The one diff was a little milky. So happy she is back in good working order! :D
