Took the wife to the Grand Cqnyon for her Birthday. Thought it was supposed to be warm in the desert. Woke up to 28 with a windchill that felt like 14. Took the train in. Great trip!

Yep, it's snowed up there before, many times every winter ... Grow big trees up there too!

I drove through Williams on Thursday ...

I've been to both the North & South Rims, but not the West Rim ... Very interesting place indeed!

I use to live on the opposite corner of the state, 50 miles from New Mexico, and 50 miles from Old Mexico ...

The North Rim burned down last summer, and I read that all of the hotels on the South Rim were closed due to water issues. Was that the case or have the issues been resolved?

I've been to the South Rim three times and the North Rim once. Hiking rim to rim is still on my bucket list. I had the opportunity to move to Prescott, AZ when I worked for Ruger but it's just too darn dry for me to live there.

Keep in mind that the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is nearly 7000 feet (North Rim is ~ 8000 feet). High desert. Big difference from the low desert (elevation 1000 feet and below) like around Las Vegas or Death Valley where it is pleasantly warm this time of year...but broiling hot during the summer months. Temperatures at the North and South Rims are pleasant during the summer months.

Looking down at the Colorado River from Toroweap Point. If you look close you can see a line of rafts heading down the river.

Everything on the South rim was open. North Rim is closed from the fires last year
