Curious if anyone knows if replacing the incandescent 1156 bulbs in the b5100 / 6100 / 7100 series tractors with a LED 1156 bulb will work? I know people have used full LED replacement assemblies, but I'm not looking to go that route.

Some early B's had their lighting running on AC or alternating current from the dynamo. The dynamo output was only partially rectified to charge the battery
Owners of those machines found the LED bulbs would not work.
I think the clue rests in the number of output leads on the dynamo.
Three leads and the lights are Alternating current.
Two leads and the LED bulbs should work.

I have used them, my B's have them and my L has them.
One interesting note: I accidentally flipped the flashers on, on my L at a job before I left for a long weekend, drove up to it on tuesday morning and they were blinking along, nothing touched and seat still flipped, hit the key and it started right up, so I know they draw very little amps!
Changed to led's as soon as I got B2601 and so much better then the installed turn signal bulbs. Also bought them from amazon. Pack of 10 less then $15.00. Going on 2 years and have 8 spares if needed.
Yeah I switched my car over from incandescents to all LEDs including cargo/dome lighting and dash backlighting.
Amp draw with incandescents was around 34A. That's with the brake lights on. With LED's? 8.4A.
Problem is--cruise control is not working now, the module depends on the incandescent bulbs to work. Can't use it anyway so it don't matter. The engine is so quick-revving and makes so much power that when it did work, it was just stupid to use it.
Anyway...when I had my G1900, I threw some LED bulbs in it. A lot better but still not great, the lenses and reflectors aren't the greatest. I see quite a few tractors come through with LED bulbs in them and they all get good feedback. Not stellar, but good. Same deal; the factory lens and reflector is designed specifically for incandescent bulbs and when LED's are placed into them the light source is placed differently thus the reflectors work incorrectly. You would think that by now they'd have LED's in them from the factory, unless the headlights are just a simple afterthought.

Thanks for that info on the dynamo Dave. Fortunately I have the 2 wire so it should work.
I was mainly curious, besides whether they would work, if there were any negatives with the different amperage draw. I figured there wouldn't be, but wanted to check.
And I agree, the lenses in these are not designed to throw light well in comparison to more modern design. I was mainly looking to safely brighten up what is existing.
