Yesterday while doing a small job down the road from me I had a small mishap with the box blade. So the homeowner (weekend warrior) rents a JD 310 backhoe to dig up some stumps (sand pines 4-6" diameter). He said he had all the stumps dug up, so he thought. He tried to level the area out with the front bucket but could not figure how to make it work. So I'm hired to fix his mess-ups. I go slow due to not knowing if he dug up all the stumps. Well I found 2 that he missed so I mark them so not to hit them. I'm grading out the dirt in another area that I had already been over and the box blade hits another stump. I lifted the box blade and noticed there was a large amount of dirt sticking to the top side of the cutting edge. I get off the tractor to take a closer look and discover the cutting edge is bent. The top edge was touching the rear of the box blade now its about 1/2" away from the rear. Has anyone else ever rebuilt their box blade? Just curious of any tips.

how long have you had the box-blade? If new(er) I would be talking to my dealer! If old and no longer attached to any warranty, I would look at how and what you hit to cause that much damage. Post a picture and show us the damage to the blade also.

Does it have replacable edges?

My bushhog has them but I've never even had to turn them yet. I have hooked stumps before but never bent one though.

yes it has replaceable edges. I will have to remove the edge and bend the flange down. Then Im going to add some gussets between the front & rear flanges with some 5/16" flat bar.

I had a similar issue occur. Found a few rocks and a small stump or two over the time I have used it. Mine isn't as bad as yours, more like 1/4" for me.

I figured if it got any worse that I would stick some heat to it and a large pipe wrench and bring it back to where it should be.

Remember - as you place more reinforcements on the box blade, the more pressure is applied to something else:)

But I would find a way to help increase the strength of the blade too. Upload pictures as you repair it.

Finally got started on the box blade today. Took the blade off the box and used a pipe wrench to bend the sheet metal back. I'm still gonna weld the flat bar on the bottom side to give it a little strength.
