I have a minor but irritating oil leak. It's allowing oil into the bell housing and out through the starter. If I were younger I'd tackle it myself, but it's out of the question now. Does anyone know roughly how many shop hours are involved in splitting it and putting it back together? There's a neighbor who was a good Deere mechanic and has gone out on his own. I'm confident he would do a good job.
Guessing that there's a seal bad between the flywheel and the clutch housing. Other thoughts?

Does it have a loader? If so, add about 2 hours. Typically to R&R a rear crankshaft seal, you're looking in the neighborhood of 6-8 hours give or take. I did one about 3 months ago; took me 6 1/2 hours start to finish (not counting paper and phone work), including removal of the loader. But I've done a few...so keep that in mind.

Lugbolt,
Thanks for your quick reply. I think I'll go ahead, otherwise I'll be replacing the starter regularly. Yes, it has a loader. I'll take the loader off, but not the frame. In addition I'll remove all the extraneous stuff, hood side panels, grill etc. to make it easier for him. I have a PDF copy of the WSM and Parts Manual. I've copied all the associated pages for him . Anything else I could do to make it easier for him?
Thanks again,

Lugbolt,
Sorry to bother you again .
Will he need the special tool for centering B clutches? I think the seal failed because it was " boogered" when the throw-out bearing was replaced a couple of years ago by the previous owner's dealer.

Are you 100% sure it's engine oil and not hydraulic oil?
A leak on the clutch shaft will also put oil into the clutch housing.

I personally would change it along with the crank seal and the pilot bearing.

Wolfman,
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm pretty certain that it's engine oil. The leak has been happening for a couple of years. The engine oil goes down very slowly, about a cup in 100 hours. Trans oil is hard to tell, but I've never had to add any. But it sure makes sense to replace the other items while it's opened up.
Will my guy need the special Kubota clutch alignment tool for B series tractors? He has years of Deere experience, but very little with Kubotas.
