Hello, I own a '98 L5450 Kubota. This machine has an independent PTO clutch, that is released/engaged via a lever. In my specific case, the PTO clutch will fully disengage the PTO. When the PTO clutch is engaged, it will fully engage the PTO. I have no PTO clutch slippage, even under extremely heavy PTO loads.

My problem is a simple one, and one that has existed since initial purchase. When I pull the PTO clutch lever up (to disengage the PTO clutch)...and then try to move the PTO lever to engage the PTO, I (more often than not) am greeted with a noticeable "grinding of the gears". I only try to engage the PTO lever with PTO clutch released, and then only at an idle and never under load. The grinding occurs regardless of whether the lever is moved quickly, or slowly. The gear grinding is akin to a synchronizer that has gone awry in a automotive transmission.

The PTO clutch linkage is adjusted exactly as per the workshop manual. Once the PTO lever is engaged, the PTO clutch will smoothly engage or disengage the PTO. Yes, I could leave the PTO lever in the on position, and then use the PTO clutch to stop/start the PTO, but Kubota does not recommend long term disengagement of the PTO clutch.

Any thoughts, suggestions, related phenomenon on this L5450 (or L4150) model?
