Parked tractor on Thursday. Went to use it on Saturday. Mashed clutch, fired her off and startied putting shuttle shift into gear. Tractor acted like no clutch engagement. Clutch worked fine on Thursday. Inherited tractor. When I got it, it had 385 hours. Now has 1177. It has never fully shifted into the low side of the shift lever. But has always stayed engaged. What would cause the clutch to stop working sitting for 2 days? 2017 yr model. L4701

Going from working fine when parked to not working at all 2 days later, I’d start with a thorough inspection of any and all linkages involved.

Something in the clutch linkage or mechanism.

If it's not engaging or moving then most likely the clutch disk , less likely the pressure plate.

If the pedal is soft then something in the linkage is bound up or broken.

Your description is a bit confusing since many people use “clutch engagement” when the really mean “clutch disengagement”. You also don’t state your tractor model completely so we have to assume that it is a mechanical gear transmission not HST and that it is the drive clutch that is the problem. I believe it has a separate PTO clutch. And there doesn’t appear to be a specific model that states “shuttle shift”. So most people seem to be reluctant to post anything that specific for your problem.

So I am assuming that when you release the tractor clutch there is no movement of the tractor. That is clutch engaged with the flywheel.

But you can engage the gear you want to with the clutch pedal pressed down. That is the clutch disengaged from the flywheel.

So have you examined all the linkage between the pedal and the clutch pedal and the clutch lever that enters the transmission case? Does the clutch lever get moved when the pedal is pressed and released? If so, then you may need to remove the shifter or some cover plate to see if the clutch release fork is moving. (I don’t see any easy way to see int the clutch area but there may be some cover to remove.).

ASSUMPTIONS ARE BEING CHANGED 180 DEGREES!

Now I am assuming that you really mean you can’t get the tractor to shift into a gear when it is running. That would indicate that the clutch plate may be stuck to the flywheel and not being disengaged by the clutch pedal being pushed down. Two days seems quite quick to be stuck but you are in Florida where corrosion could occur rather rapidly.

So you may need to put the tractor in gear when not running. Hopefully it is sitting out in an open area so you can crank the engine and not run into something. You need to get the tractor to be under some load (pushing against a stout tree or pulling a ground engagement implement) with the clutch pedal tied in the fully depressed position. It would hopefully be und enough shearing load to break loose.

But it could also be that the clutch plate or pressure plate has “broken“ and you need to split the tractor and repair/replace whatever is “broken“

You could also post a more descriptive description of your tractor and the specific problems that you are experiencing and get more specific, experienced solutions.
