Hi,

I have a L4630 HST. When I drive and bounch the tractor the fuse blows.

The fuse is Fuse 7 slot a 5 amp fuse. The fuse is in the fuse box in the operators area. It is labled "Starter Relay"

Anyone had this problem and have a fix for it?

Thanks,

Roy

When you bounce the tractor a bare stretch of wire is touching a metal part of the tractor. You will have to follow the wire bundles from the fuse, probably to the ignition switch. It should be fairly easy to spot a place where the wiring is rubbing around a corner or sharp edge. When you find it, wrap the area heavily with electrical tape, or change the wire. Generally, the tape is easier. To change the wire you will need connector ends, that should be available at any auto parts place. It is a good idea to wrap the bundle - if there is one - with a jacket; also available at the auto parts store.

My Dad had a hammer under his seat on his Kubota tractor. When the seat bounced and hit the hammer it would pop that same fuse. Removed the hammer, fuse quit popping.

Can't find a bare wire. What is the chance the starter relay is shorting out? How could I test the relay? Since the fuse is for the starter relay.

Thanks for you suggestion.

You can also try what is known as the "wiggle" test: with the key on just as it is while driving, wiggle tug and pull on the wire loom where ever you can reach it to see if you can make the fuze blow. This can be done with the engine on or off. At the point of the fuse blowing then you know you are in the area of the cause.

after starting the eng, unplug the wire at the relay and protect the end from touching anything. If it still blows the fuse, unplug the wire at the back of the fuse box, a little more difficult, may need a small pin or wire to disengage the clip that holds the wire in the fuse box. If it does not blow again, run a new wire from the fuse to the starter relay.

My thought was and is that this wire goes from the fuse to the start switch, then on to the starter relay. The only time the starter end of it is hot is when you have the switch turned to "start" So the likely piece of wire goes from the fuse block to the start switch. I go along with jiggling the wires with the ignition on. I could understand a really loose connection at either end, giving a connector a chance to hit a ground screw.
I guess there is a chance the wire goes to the relay, then on to the switch. I don't have my manuals handy, but I think it unlikely.
