Just wondering if anyone in this forum has the installation instructions for a WR Long 3rd function kit before I buy one. I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance!!!

planefixer1, welcome to the forum. i think if you go to Youtube and look for WR Long 3rd function install you'll find some. However, I would advise you to check what specifically is required to install a 3rd function on your specific tractor. Even call the guys at WRLong and ask them.

I got a 3rd function valve on my L4240, just a tab bigger tractor than yours. I was going to install myself, save money, and all that. I ended up with a kit from Kubota because I wanted steel lines going to the front, not hoses.

I then discovered the install is different than many tractors. The right rear tire and fender need to be removed, the loader arms, drain some of the hyd fluid and some more. I just had the dealer do it. Consider this info. if you plan on doing it yourself.

Your tractor, I'm pretty sure, takes the same Kubota kit as mine (L2225)

I have a L3830 and applied a WR Long 3rd function kit I bought at Everything Attachments.com. The installation is very easy and the instructions are fine, I see from your profile you are an A&P, you will have no problems. You might also look at the ***8220;Hose Saver***8221; sold at the same place. I also used heat shrink to control the wires from the control head. If you would like to call me about it that is fine (2eight1) 9four8-05one9 Les.

Les, I think you'll discover the xx30 series tractor and the xx40 series tractor is different in the placement of the hyd. valve you have to tie into.

I was just trying to let the OP know it's not as simple as most folks declare!

You are right, with the 40 series chassis Kubota made some changes to the hydraulic tie in port. But there is still going to be hoses from that port to the FEL valves. The 3rd function valve just goes in series with the power beyond line. The WR Long guys will have this figured out, and a person with average mechanical skill can install this kit. You do not have to go to the dealer for everything. Having said that I recently had an aux rear hydraulic kit added to my L3830, it pulls hydraulic pressure from a different place so I had the dealer do that.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm mainly concerned about removing my rear tire. I filled them with washer fluid a while back and really don't want to drain one if I can avoid it. I think I'll call WR Long and see if I can get specifics on the install.

Planefixer1, you can go to this link and scroll down to page 11 and see how/what is required to connect the 3rd function on your tractor.

Once again, notice where the connections have to be made as compared to the newer xx01 series tractors.

Did you notice the private message I sent to you a few days ago? If not look in the upper right hand corner of your post. You'll see your moniker, some other info, and then red lettering showing private messages.

Just because a picture would have been helpful as I started my install - here’s the banjo fitting for the Power Beyond tube beneath the seat. L3940 HST with a cab.
