All the ash trees on my property are dead due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Along side my driveway is the power line to my property and most of the storms with wind come from the west which would blow them down on it. Not good! So I decided to get them out of the way along with the brush and I must say it wouldn't have been possible without the L3901 and the grapple. I would bump up to the tree and get the cut started and then use the tractor to send it down in the right direction. Drag it out, cut it up and pile the brush to grab later and load into the dump trailer. Just pleased with the performance of my orange tractor!

Tractor & grapple is a great tool. I see why that was easy but I would never approach any standing dead ash here - Mine are min 12" to 30" diam with widowmaker branches.

Tractor is always out of range during felling w/ my luck ;)

BTW - great firewood for the stove right away

+1 I also would never use my l3901 to push down a diseased ash tree. I will use a 50' cable to pull it down if it is hung up on another tree. Then a short chain to drag it out and cut it up.

This was my only choice. Right on the edge of my neighbors property. He was nice enough to give me permission to fall the trees on his property. Dragged them back and cut them up on my side.

EA double clamp. Bought it when I got my tractor in 2014.
Good call. I thought it looked like an EA but I did not see any markings (maybe the sticker was faded and no blue/red lettering left?) in the pick. Sure beats carrying by hand or wheelbarrow IMO. Looks like the original black paint holding up well too. 👍

I can’t say anything bad about it. It’s been dependable and I only had one repair for a cracked cylinder mount. It gets stored inside when not on the tractor. I modified the ends by welding on some flat stock to allow me to pinch grab small branches and such.

It’s too bad the company fell out of favor. I paid around $1100 for it and that included shipping. Only took a week to get it.

The tops of those dead ash trees often break off and can be deadly. The arborists around my area use a bucket truck and start at the top. I have removed many and some very large by myself after having bought an $9 OSHA certified plastic hard hat. I would not put my tractor under those trees but my head I guess that's OK. Happy New Year.
