L3901 - PTO disengage, needs adjustment?

When I try to disengage the PTO I have to wiggle the little yellow lever this way and that for a while before the PTO disengages. I loosened/ lenghtened the cable a bit (maybe a 1/4"), underneath the tractor, didn't help.

Look over the little lever carefully. If I recall mine was binding on my L2501. I think a little lubrication did the trick - or did I add a washer? I know I did something to the lever on the fender.

Just memory from here on OTT, but seems like the PTO linkage on the L01's requires some regular attention. Sounded like not the best design.

Seems like it was regular lubrication was common fault. Sometimes wouldn't engage or disengage reliably.

Maybe some others will chime in behind Roadworthy. Has been a topic quite a few times.

Just to clarify, when you say lubricate, I'm assuming you mean lubricating the cable? The cable reminds me of the kinds of nested cables you find on bicycles. So lubricate the ends of this cable, where the inner cable emerges from the outer cable? What kind of lubricant?

Aside from a cable adjustment that may need done as well, at the OTHER end of the cable (not too easy to see), is a spring that gets gunked up with stuff. I use compressed air to keep it cleaned out. Oiling can help too, once cleaned—but likely also helps attract more gunk.
