Just started using my new L3800 this morning. It began losing RPM until it died, over and over. I finally got it back off the road so I can wait for service to show up. 2014 with 2 hours on it. Front loader and backhoe. I know service is coming out, but does anyone know anything to check while I'm waiting? The fuel bowl is full with no water. The last 15 second start up that I got, it blew a bit of white smoke out the exhaust.

New machine....assuming it has oil and coolant in it, I would guess fuel related. Even without visible water in the fuel you could have contamination. Also I have seen people accidentally put GAS in a diesel, will cause same symptoms. In one case in CT the GAS STATION had gotten a load of gas put into the diesel tank by accident, it wasn't even the people's fault.

The tech said he thought it was air in the line. I used it for 2 hours solid with no stalling. But now a hose on the front loader is leaking. I'm pretty disappointed. I've already cancelled my work this weekend because of this. I've got some PO'd customers. I'm wondering if I made a big ole mistake buying this thing.

Did you run it low on fuel?
Is the leak on a fitting?

Full of fuel, and the leak was where the rubber hose went into the metal sleeve at a fitting.

We had several issues just like this on a brand new JLG machine at work. This was dropped directly to us with no run time other than production and it had some bad crimps resulting in hydraulic leaks.

That is what warranty is for so it should be a small bump in a smooth road ahead.
Good luck with the orange.

Don't panic . . It's probably something really simple and easily fixed. If a new system (be it mechanical or electronic) is gonna fail . . it will do so in the first 1% of it's life cycle . . get past this and you have a 10K hr machine if you do your part regarding regular scheduled service . . .

Smarter people than me here will get you back up and running in no time . .

You have a Very Good machine! But with a minor problem right out of the shoot.
Get it fixed and enjoy.

Ewald Tractor where I bought it sent a tech who replaced the hose, and also replaced the same one on the other side to make sure there was no problem. Great service, now I'm about to get back to work with it and see how it does.

What was the final outcome on it not running. What did the tech find and how was it fixed, now that it is running?

I also have a new L3800, only 6 hours on it and found a hydraulic leak. Service came by today and took care of it, o ring not seated correctly on the hydro block next to the filter. not a major problem. The service tech explained that its good to check all the hose fittings after each use on a new tractor. They may get, lets say sprung during install and can back off with use until they get more flexible. Hope I am making since. It made since to me. Other than the leak the tractor has been perfect during my first 2 projects.

Very hard to imagine your dealership had something so noticeable like a hydraulic leak in plain sight get past them? I would guess your dealer installed your loader on the new tractor, as they don't come with them but as an option. Good luck.

I doubt it was leaking when the dealer had it. Probably started after some use.
