I have an l3410 with the 3 cylinder engine. It currently has 3500 hours and I’m starting to see small metal shavings in the oil via the dipstick. I haven’t seen exactly which engine it is but I think it’s the 33hp D1703. I have access to a 43hp v2203 4cylinder engine. I have done the research and the v2203 is used in the same chassis as my tractor. I guess I am asking if it would be easier to do a motor swap or see about a rebuild(if the block is viable). I never have done an engine swap on a tractor but me and my dad have a lot of experience in automotive engines and such. I’m just really asking for advise and I’m giving yall my options. I’m just a whippersnapper and want as much feedback from those that are wiser than me

First and foremost: There are quite a few different versions of the V2203, and only one version will work for tractor use due to a lot of configuration issues.

To swap from a 3 cylinder to a 4 cylinder requires rework of several systems, not cheap and not easy.
Is there even enough room in there to add the 4th cylinder?
I'll bet you don't have the oil pan on it that will work with the tractor.
I'm also betting on intake and exhaust are not the same.
Also The oil filter location comes into play.
Then there is issues with the bellhousing mounting, and possibly the flywheel.
And finally AG engines require the drive for a Hydraulic pump, most V2203's do not have that drive, and the last time I helped someone find the right drive it was expensive!
That drive will also only fit one of the several V2203's that are out there.

Your far better off getting a rebuilt D1703-A, NOT a D1703-M or D1703-BG
Or just rebuild your engine.
