L3400 HST Shut off and wont start

This rascal was idling fine, then a little rough and finally just died and wouldn't restart. It acted exactly like it ran out of gas. It cranked over strong till the battery got weak. Changed the fuel filter. Didn't help. Any suggestions? Keep in mind it didn't shut off quick like turning the switch off, but slowly as if it was fuel starved. Just curious, how many fuel solenoids does this engine have?

charge your battery - crack the bleeder screw and or injector, and see IF there is fuel coming from the tank. IF fuel, then should start, no fuel, backtrack.

could be fuel algae - restriction in tank, cap restriction...........

Hey, Bill, maybe this is your problem, "acted exactly like it ran out of gas."

If you put too much GAS in a diesel engine it will eventually quit running!

The dealer where I got my fuel filter sold me some Star-Tron Enzyme fuel treatment stating that would in all likelyhood solve the problem of algae in the poly tank. No guarantee. Best to crack the lines at the injectors or the injector pump? I would think the injectors. So, does this critter have 1 or 2 solenoids for fuel supply? Do you know if there are factory repair manuals available. The trouble I'm having is locating and identifing the different componants. Thank you.

There is not a free or cheap safe download available for that model.
But you can buy the WSM here:

First check fuel going to the injection pump, then crack injector lines at the injector to check for fuel there.

I've used Startron for years, works perfectly!

Bled the fuel lines at the pump bleeder and lines. Lotsa air.
