L3010 won't shut off normally

While I was dealing with a wheel problem I had the tractor running for about ten minutes. This was in cold weather but I have run it with no problems in colder weather before. I turned the key to the off position and for the first time ever it did not shut off. I didn't even know that the tractor has a kill switch which I used a few minutes later and the tractor did shut off. Later in the day I started the tractor again to continue working on the wheel problem and had the same experience. Since this never happened before and did not even know it could happen I don't know what to do or check.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

This is a common issue with the L3010. The most common cause appears to be corroded fuses/fuse box - it being in the open an all. I recommend you remove all fuses, clean up corrosion on the fuse box, and replace all fuses. Maybe consider a spritz of something to stop corrosion.

If it isn't the fuse it could be a relay or solenoid.

The odds are the fuse, though.

I agree with Mingy, most likely the fuse (bottom one). I had to wire around mine with an inline fuse holder because the terminals were corroded to the point of braking of in the fuse block.

Just wondering - if this is a "common problem" with the 3010 models - was the location of the fuses changed on later models ???

Does anyone know where the fuses are on the newer ones (i.e. L3800) versus the location on the 3010 ?? Just trying to see what issues I might have down the road once I purchase one.

Many thanks -

Surprised that nobody has mentioned the shut off solenoid yet. I think that part's frequent failure inspired the engine kill pull-type lever.

I have put 3 solenoids and one relay in a L3650. They are very sensitive to water and condensation.

The solenoid and relay run about $70 each so hopefully it is a fuse issue.

Well, we went with the 'most likely' cause first, and I think you'd agree that suggesting somebody check the fuse, which is the mostly cause and the easiest, cheapest, and quickest to correct, is a good start. Hopefully, he'll let us know how it works out (I'm sure he will if it isn't the problem).

Fuse problems are common with L3010 - the fuse box is practically open to the environment, rather than being in the engine compartment or at least well sealed. I have not yet had a similar problem with my other 2 tractors, and I don't know where the fust box is on other models or whether it is at least well sealed against the environment, like it should have been.

Of course, every diesel I know of has some form of a manual shut off valve, so its not catastrophic, just a PITA.
