I took my starter off to check the brushes and noticed that there was a spring shown in my WSM that wasn't on my starter. Can anyone tell me what its function is? I thought maybe it pressed against the end of the shaft to counter some spring inside the starter that I can feel by pressing on the shaft. Judging by the drawing below, it has a pretty large diameter, so don't even know what it presses against.
