I just picked up a 4x4 L275 as a parts machine (need to do a engine swap) and am wondering if it's feasible to transplant all the 4wd hardware to my 2wd tractor. It's probably not a simple task, granted, but since I'll have the tractor torn down anyway would it be that much additional work to convert it? Has anyone here done this and if so, do you have any great words of wisdom?

Sounds like a good Idea. I would try it. A good start would be to look at a parts diagram and see whats different on the two. It may be necessary to use the 4x4's transmission and housing but even so It would be a fun project.

I agree with Gurn. As im sure you're aware, 4wd vs 2wd is, sometimes, not a competition. You either have it or you don't. And like Gurn said, you'll have to swap rear ends or where ever the transfer case is located. On my L225DT, its part of the rear end. Also, i believe the mount for the front axle is different between mine and the 2wd version. But is sounds like you'll be doing an engine swap so the mounts will already be there.

Good luck and keep us posted with pics
