Hi all, I am new here - After wanting a kubota tractor for many years, I just bought an L2600dt with 586 hours on it and low compression in 2 cylinders and had a few questions. I am a mechanic - I own a shop that restores Toyota Land Cruisers, so of course I had to have a japanese tractor.
Background on the tractor - low hours but looks like it was used pretty hard. I got it extremely cheap, probably paid 1/3 of what it is worth. It has an LB400 loader that was not used much, they mainly mowed a large pasture with it. Everything works and it does run, just starts hard, smokes, low on power and lots of blowby. It has a d1403 in it, I did try soaking the rings to see if they were stuck - no luck. I am a bit short on time as I would like to use this tractor for snow removal this winter. If I have enough time tonight, I will pull the head off and see how bad the cylinders are. If its as simple as a re-ring and head gasket job, that would be great - but i'm not banking on that until its torn down.
I know a guy selling a 2wd L2550 airport tug tractor with a good running d1402 for a great price. From what I could find looking at parts, these engines are very similar. I am wondering if anyone knows if the d1402 can be swapped in my l2600? I would pretty much just plan on swapping the long block if so since the oil pan is different on my 4wd tractor. Looks like it uses a different starter, flywheel and bellhousing as well, so I would use whatever combination of the 2 that works. I will be visiting his area for Christmas, so if it will work I will bring my trailer and pick it up while I am there.
Also, does anyone have a WSM PDF for the l2600? I found all of the manuals except the WSM so far.
Thanks in advance!
