Hey, new here - I could not find a prior thread on this specific topic/problem so forgive me if it has been addressed before.

Here is my problem -

2 weeks ago I went to start my L2550, it fired right up (like it always does) but then revved all the way up. I tried pulling the kill lever but nothing happened. Then the engine speed slowly dropped till it shut off. Now, it won't start.

Following the fuel lines I first replaced the fuel filter, the old one was a bit past needing to be replaced. Checked that fuel was getting to the transfer pump fine. No fuel was coming out of the t-fer pump, so I got a new one and replaced it.

Now I have fuel coming out of the t-fer pump quite well. Still not starting though... To make a long troubleshooting story short - I pulled the hard-lines coming from the injector pump to the injectors. There is no fuel being pumped out of the injector pump, at the most very very tiny spits even at full throttle.

I find it hard to believe that both pumps went out at the same time and am hoping that I am missing something here but at this time it looks like the injector pump may be bad as well. Is there anything I missed? Some crazy bleed/prime trick?

Thanks in advance for words of sage advice.

As stated above, make sure you have all the air bled out between the t-fer pump and the inj pump. Its also possible that your t-fer pump failed sometime in the past and you've been running with just the inj pump, so maybe it finally failed as well.

Air free fuel delivery is there, the soft lines have been bled quite well.

Starter fluid has never been near this tractor, ever. Bad JuJu happens.

Re: Fuel pump - the rail is the round bar located just under the mounting flanges on the inj pump? It has a 90 degree round pin coming out towards the front of the engine. Correct?

If that is the case then it is stuck in the rearward position. I will take the pump out this evening and take a close look. I am assuming it should move back and forth reasonably freely.

As it turns out, the fuel delivery rack was indeed stuck and not moving freely. After doing some cleaning and a bit of work it now moves freely.

I managed to re-install the fuel injector pump, and I get a 3-4" burst of fuel coming out of injector 2. The rack is seated on the kill lever properly as when I pull the kill lever fuel stops pumping out of the pump.

This leaves me with two questions:

1: Is there a trick to getting the fuel injection pump installed properly? I noticed that the fuel coming out of the pump does not change when I change the accelerator.

2: I am only seeing pulses of fuel on the middle injector pump, since I have not touched the pump innards I would think it would be all or nothing. Hints?

Thanks to Service Dept Vic - you hit the nail on the head on this one.

Scott, I have the same issue with my L2550 injector pump. I only get squirts for injector 2 (middle pump). Did you have to replace the whole pump, or was there some trick? I have checked all the springs, and they aren't broken or anything...
