Abuse disclaimer: Yes, I was harder on this 2501 than I should have, dragging rocks with the backhoe. I guess after that branch dented the hood I gave up caring about it looking pretty :)

Anyways, I was moving some rocks in a wooded area (yes sticks and branches getting in places they shouldn't), pinching them with the backhoe, then moving them to the edge of the Woodline. One in particular was too hard to fully lift up, so I mostly dragged it, it was only 10 Ft I thought. Well, suddenly, as I'm moving forward over minor mounds (causing pressure on the hydraulics) my backhoe controls stopped working. My front bucket only moves up 3 inches or so then stops (but I can keep doing this to eventually raise it), very weak, it also does NOT go down, but will with the "float" control. Backhoe does Curl, but that's all, cant move anything else including the stabilizers. I was able to jack up the hoe, and secure it, then move it out of the woods.

This is the first hydraulic issue i've ever had, I am probably going to bring it to the shop, but I figured I'd reach out to see if anyone else had suggestions. I hope it's something minor. I disconnected the hydraulic lines from the backhoe, way to much pressure to reconnect, so I let some pressure off and re-connected. Still no change. Hydraulic level looks good, I'm afraid to add more at this point. When I look underneath I cant see anything glaringly wrong or disconnected.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

6:31 in this video is what my front end loader is doing - except it never gets to fully go up, it says in that stutter mode. (again with the backhoe unusable)
Also, I have no 3rd function.

Man I hate that for ya brother.

I bet a few of the good ole hands on here can get you pointed in the right direction.

I feel your pain on the dented hood though, know the feeling all too well. Hang in there!

VERY soon after buying a new L3200 in2012, one moment of carelessness resulted in a small dent in the LF corner of the hood. In the 6 or 7 years that I owned the tractor I don't recall doing any other damage and that includes swinging pieces of steel around and welding for the cab fab.

  1. Your return line is not fully connected.
  2. The 3pt lever is not in the full down position.

I checked the return valve about 6 different timed in the woods. Once I got it on flat ground and checked it out, i completely removed and reset the valves..

Thank you

It was as simple as that, the return (Red Side)- even though I checked many times - was not properly connected.

With the return valve cleaned out and completely reset - the tractor has returned to normal operation.

moral of the story - even if it looks and seems ok, clean, inspect and ensure that you reseat the valves, it can take multiple times - In my case, there was a weird pressure that I couldn't reset without reseating and tapping the valves.

You had me confused for a moment. JFYI, you did not check and clean any valves. Those are quick disconnects.

The hood? Loader, grill and hood, that's three. Should be good to go now.

Glad you got it figured out and updated the thread with the fix.

It does not sound like you abused anything. I regularly use my 77 to move/shove/displace/lift rocks and things.

Sounds to me like your getting the most out of it, as you should.

Either way, glad it was a simple fix. (y)
