I just got a Kubota l2500dt with a front end loader. The 3 time using it the pump started to smoke, get very hot and now noisy. The pump I need is about $600. The shank for that pump is short and has spines on it. I have found the same pump for about $250 but it has alittle long shank on it. Has anyone or could I make a spacer it's not that much gap and used the longer shank one?

Usually the pumps doing what you are saying is because they are dead heading.

The pump may or may not be bad.

Does it start hard (slow or dragging) now?

If it does the pump is dead headed.
It's most likely candidate for that to happen is the three point control in an out of adjustment position or an issue with the loader valve or connections to the valve.

If you need to change the pump, I wouldn't suggest altering the pump mounting just to fit another pump, as any small misalinement can cause major damage, get the right pump.

Or If possible alter the pump shaft to make it the same as the old pump.
