By shear luck I found this site and just now registered.

I have a 1980 25 HP L245DT with a front-end loader with about 900 hours on it. I have owned it for 20 years, use it for dragging a horse arena and minor items. It has been a GREAT tractor! I maintain it regularly (I do the minor stuff and if I can't do it, as a last resort, I take it to a shop that works on Kubota's to do the major items - only brought it in once).

Problem: There appears to be a strain on the hydraulic gear pump, because when I drop the bucket down, the engine runs better (has a boost of power). That lasts for about 4 seconds and then it bogs down again. This strain causes the hydraulic fluid to overheat (anything that has the fluid in it gets super hot). Plus the engine eventually overheats and I have to then cool it off. Does anyone out there know what might cause this problem? Thank you!

Check for pinched or kinked high-pressure side pipes and hoses.
I've heard stories that the flexible hose can de-laminate inside, the pressure will the get between the laminations and squeeze the inner one closed. You could try; shut it off, lower bucket and work the levers to release any pressure then squeeze the hoses down their length in several places, if you feel a softer spot(s) that hose could have this problem.

I'd also take a close look through the whole coolant system, it should not be over-heating just becuz the motor is working a bit more; what if you were dragging a plow through 60 acres? it should over-heat?

If you have the L1200/1700 loader with the standard control, check that the pressure relief valve on the control is not clogged. As with the previous post most of the issues I have had with my 245 hydraulics have been screen related.
