I own a late seventies L245DT with my dad, and so far I have been very successful with repairs needed on the old girl, but I am by far stumped with how the PTO shifter handle has gotten itself really stuck and with the fact that the 4wheel drive isn't working! I'm pretty mechanical and have worked on coal mine equip for more than a decade so I am confident I can accomplish the required work if I could get just get some pointers on what is causing these issues! I had the PTO shifter working when we first purchased the tractor and it shifted as I would expect it to, and I tested the operation of the 4 wheel drive prior to purchase as well. At least the PTO is engaged if we were to absolutely need to use it but the 4 wheel drive needs to be fixed ASAP! Any help is greatly appreciated! I do have the complete service/parts manual that gives direction on how the things are built/repaired, but the troubleshooting sections on these things are very dumbed down and generic to say the least... Thanks in advance!

I know this sounds like a dumb question(not trying to be a SA) - is the lever MOVING into the 4wd drive selection or is it in the "slot" and now does not work? Many folks have a hard time getting the level engaged, then it goes. IF engaged and nothing happens, there are several places it could be "broken" - report back as to which one is your problem.

The 4wd,, it is real common for the coupler to strip out. Under the eng oil pan is a tube that the front driveshaft is in. At both ends are male / female couplers with splines. This is what strips . The tube slides together like a pto shaft so you can get to the coupler. Drive the pin out and slide the coupler off.
