L245 changed transmission oil; now nothing

Anybody have a suggestion?

I changed the transmission oil in my L245 this weekend.
8:00 started tractor (all worked as usual)
8:20 turned off tractor; drained oil from two ports and final drives
8:40 removed filter screen; replaced it and o-ring
9:00 tightened all plugs, pulled pan out of way
9:15 began filling with universal tractor transmission fluid (TSC Travellers ~ UDT)
9:30 begins to flow from oil level port (LH side); ~ 23 qts
9:45 attempt to start tractor

It took several attempts to start, and really had to lean on the glow plugs. Finally it started and acted really burdened, almost like a flooded gas engine. Also noticed the hydraulic pump has a subtle high pitch whine and the 3-point does not work. Ugh. Anybody have an idea?

I confess. I goofed, ....but now I know. What's the problem in the attached picture?

The silver colored 'hydraulic block' is not an easy access point for 2 high pressure hydraulic taps. Rather, it is a critical 'bridge' where oil flows OUT of one port and IN the other. Originally, there was an old ratty hose which made the bridge. I figured the previous owner, unequipped to specify proper fittings, just made an improvisation.

So, here I go removing the hose and replace it with pipe plugs. Result?
Pump dead heads, engine doesn't want to start, and no 3-point hydraulics.

Remove pipe plugs and re-install new hose? Voila....all is well.

But why did it become a problem only after you changed the oil?

Did the hydraulic worked befor you changed the oil? Strange...

Hey Carl.
Ah. Good question.
It was while I was changing the transmission oil, that I decided to remove the old hose and replace with pipe plugs.

In retrospect, the flow logic makes sense. If you install a tandem (open) center hydraulic valve, the flow will pass right through the valve until you command hydraulics. ...And now I know....

Troubleshooting Step #1: Identify what changed since it was last working.

The presence of this diverter block is actually a plus for you, You can now add hydraulically operated equipment to your machine very easily, If you add a loader you can easily access you hydraulics without cutting into you hydraulic line. Simply run your lines from this block to an open center valve as you had indicated and you are set.
