Hi folks,
Tractor is finally going again with manual steering. In recap my pitman shaft split in half and I was faced with $2400 for a few box, $1100 for used. Not wanting to take a chance on a used box, I decided to convert. Maybe in the future I'll rebuild the PS box. So here is the recipe:
(1) new manual box, Kumar Bros, $350
(2) used pitman arm and steering link $200
Machine shop to make a tapered bushing to adapt steering link to knuckle link, $20
(1) 12" hydraulic hose to bypass power steering lines, $40
I'm in business, steers like a race car, didn't realize how worn the PS box was. Yes, it takes more effort, but not bad. At the end of the day, I saved $1800. and have a new manual steer tractor. Most trouble was in finding used parts. Patience and perseverance paid off. The old girl still pushes snow like a bear!
