do you guys who has the spin on oil filter to you still have the oil pressure regulator installed. or do you have the plug.
mine is going bad i do believe , when motor finally gets hot , I have a pressure gauge, I observe it goes to 60 lbs then will relieve the pressure to 34 lbs.
when it was cold it went to 80lbs and stayed there till it warmed up a bit. then it would hold 60 lbs at 2200 RPMS , now being hot it does what I observe. so I tested it with air in oil bath and it does just that hot. I not sure if it is even needed. I am sure a plate/cover is need if it gets plugged.

in this paragraph in the manual :
All Models 48. Refer to Fig. 45 for a view of in stalled relief valve and filter housing and to Fig. 46 for an exploded view. Some early models used a housing with re newable element type filter instead of spin-on filter, but complete units are in terchangeable. --->>Regulating valve (1) is cartridge type as shown <--- and is not adjustable. Renew cartridge if operating pressure is low. Safety valve (7 and 8) does not normally open, but is present to protect pump in the event of filter blockage or similar malfunction. Safety valve is designed to open at 979.8 kPa (142 psi) but cannot be easily tested.

There’s nothing wrong with 34 psi when hot.

Your pressures are still well within the normal and safe operating range.

It's also not very likely it's the regulator causing the pressure loss, it's more likely the normal wear in the engine.

It's not a manner of removing the regulator.
With both the old element type and with the new spin on filter, they both take the same regulator plate.

The diagram in the book makes it look like one or the other, where it's actually both.
