I have an L 225 from the 1970s and get hydraulic fluid seeping out around the shifter when brush hogging. I know some tractors have a vent around the seat somewhere and when they clog, fluid may seep from the weakest point. Do the old L225s have such a vent? I don’t see anything under or around the seat area. Thanks

I think it is similar to my L185 but I can’t find it in the illustrated parts list for the L225.

Here is the diagram from an L185 that might help. See #12 in diagram. On left side (sitting in the seat facing forward) it is underneath the seat near top of the case and looks like a tube shaped into a question mark but on its side.

The L225 does not have a vent like shown for the 185. The fill cap between the shifters and the rear cover has a small hole drilled though one of the wings into the transmission housing. The get plugged with whatever and cause the oil to be pushed out the shifters when hot.

Remove the fill cap and clean from the inside with a piece of wire or a drill bit.

I wondered if they only had the cap as a vent:

So this is not a vent hole?
They don't show any pipe.

I looked up the part number for the L225 fill port (34150-21422) that was obsolete and looked at the replacement part to see what it fit. It was called a PLUG but used on the L175 and L225 only. Looking at the L175 it shows a similar hole in a similar position as what @North Idaho Wolfman shows for the L225. So it looks like @ruger1980 is 100% correct and my guessing that the L225 would be similar to the L185 is 100% WRONG.

The only good thing I can say is that I was keen enough to not look at the L2250 parts that returns when you search for L225 parts! I remember that happened in the past!
