I'm currently working on rebuilding my water pump and I found this video to help me through it.

2 things. The new seal for the impeller that comes with the rebuild kit is different than factory. And since the video is for the bearings only, I guess they determined their seal was good enough. My new seal has a spring that looks like it's going to force contact with the impeller. I can take pictures momentarily.

The other thing is the brass or copper washer....I forgot to put it on the shaft so that it's inside the pump like in the video. I have the fan pulley already on, I loved to hear the washer doesn't do any thing. Honestly, if it's inside I can't figure out what it's for. The seal behind the impeller keeps the water in the motor. And the washer wouldn't seal anyway. Also the seal is pressed from the outside, and the bearing is pressed from the other side...they don't touch. So the washer between those two points seems useless. I left it out because I THOUGHT it went in between the impeller and the seal. You know, protecting the seal from the part that keeps turning.

I can find NOTHING else but this video on the L2201 water pump. Are there any other tractors that have this same type of process so I can see that rebuild OR...can anyone locate an exploded view of this pump?

FYI I previously ordered a replace pump for the L245 which advertisement included the same DH1101 motor. Well... it is NOT the same. the impeller shape is slightly different and the pump housing pushes the impeller out just a bit more so it's can't even seal on the motor. Either way, I can't locate an exploded view for that pump either.

Thank you for your time!

This is what the new seal looks like. Is there a step I missed in that it's supposed to be locked down so it looks like the factory seal, or is this an update?

Not sure if this helps or not, but the pictured seal looks nearly identical to a “pool pump” seal set up.

I have to change them every 3 or 4 years on my pool.

Maybe some of those videos would shed some light on it? 🤷‍♂️

The copper / brass washer goes between the seal and the bearing.
