Yet another question about my L175. Before I go on I must thank you guys for the wealth of knowledge on this forum.:)

My question is: Does the hydraulic screen cover have a gasket behind it, or does it bolt directly to the tractor, metal-on-metal? Thanks.

Just a rubber O-ring. The cap has two bolts and it is a metal to metal fit but there is the o-ring to seal it.

I did mine tonight. Just finished dumping $116 in UDT oil in this thing since I decided to flush out the old fluid and fill with new.

If you take the two bolts out and hold the cap, there is a spring between the filter and cap. When the cap is pulled back the filter will sit in place and it will have to be pulled out with your fingers. Pulling is not a hard task, it just comes out but the oil will not push it out usually. The filter can be removed with minimal fluid loss if the filler cap is not removed. Just remove the filter and put the cap back in place while cleaning the filter. Re-install the filter and there will be minimal fluid loss.

On my L245DT I used a new Kendall Jackson wine cork to plug the hole as soon as I removed the filter. (my daughter used to work fo KJ and collected a sack of new corks) Of course, if you are going to change the fluid just let it drain without plugging the hole.

O.K. newb question, You don't "drain" the UDT or SUDT from the screen hole? You drain it from under the tractor right?

Yes, and don't forget to drain the cavities of the rear axles on each side too. There is quite a bit of fluid there and you will find junk that will flush out. If you don't drain the rear cavities then you won't get the full capacity of new fluid in.
