Hi good people. I was given an L1051DT to use as a glorified wheelbarrow, but see much greater potential than that. I do have a problem with its speed as it crawls in high gear and almost stands still in low gear. And I do not know how to stop the PTO from turning. Is it a very slow machine?? And can anyone share a user manual or direct me to an above board site to purchase one?

Tractor Data tells me you have a sixteen speed transmission. Since you also have four reverse gears this indicates you have a couple high / low range selectors. You may be running in the lowest range.
https://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/002/2/9/2293-kubota-l1501.html Generally a tractor in the highest gear can run slightly in excess of ten miles per hour. This may be a gray market tractor not intended for import into the US. A user manual for the L185 should be close but not quite a match. You could also try getting a manual from England at

I believe you have a single speed PTO so engagement would be via a short lever which may look like a gear shift. It could be next to the gear selector (or one of them). Lacking a manual you may need to experiment with the levers to see what does what. If there is some internal wear the PTO splines may spin all the time whether the PTO is engaged or not. Depress the clutch and they should stop. If they continue to run with the clutch depressed that's a clue the splines will turn all the time.

I will try both links and thanks for the info. I've only been able to find 8 of the 16 gears so fun and games coming up. I post the results. Thanks again.

There is something called creeper gear that sits on top of the transmission that allows the tractor to move very slowly. Sounds like you have that.

I recall seeing threads on this site so search for that term

OK guys, I followed all your advise and now have a fully functioning 16 forward gear L1051DT. Also a few reverse gears. :) I have ordered a hard copy of the user manual from the link forwarded by Roadworthy and will make a pdf copy of that available to kubotabooks.com for free access.
Thank you all very much, you're well appreciated.

There is a lever mounted sideways on top of the transmission between your legs and the pto, and gear shift levers. Thats the lever to put your transmission into creeper mode. Should see an "L" and "H" by it. There is a neutral position between L and H

Move that lever to high range.

There is a standard hi low lever to the left of your seat. That lever will switch between Low, neutral, and high.

Thanks Daren. I had found the lever on top of the gear box but not the one on the left side of the transmission. All's well now though and I have been using the 1051 in top gear instead of crawl only. Quite a difference. I'm now looking forward to receive the user manual so I can get to know the machine better.
Thanks again.

I've just received the L1500 and L1501 series user manual but although the cover states the correct series, the contents are all about the L185 and L185DT. Close but not the same. Will copy it anyway and send it to kubotabooks.com
