Are you sure it is fuel?
My l185 was having trouble with increasing engine oil level. That was caused by a bad seal on the hydraulic pump shaft.
Repaired that and problem solved.
I had to order all of the seal variations (3 or 4 different part numbers) to get correct seal. I assume the pump was replaced and no longer matched the tractor serial number for the correct part. They were inexpensive enough to not be too concerned with ordering them.
If it is diesel fuel then I would suspect a seal leak in the injection pump but I am not sure that model tractor has that problem seal.
