Hello,

I need some help. I decided to do a complete service on my ZG23 mower tonight and everything went well until I started to refill the transmission with hydraulic oil. My machine calls for 7.9 quarts of fluid and when I got about 5-1/2 quarts in it fluid started pouring out the top. Pulled the dip stick out and fluid poured out of the hole. I know I drained more fluid out than I have put back in. I drained the main transmission drain and the left and right read wheels. I pulled the plug back out of the rear wheel drain and it seems that the oil isn't getting into that area. Is there a trick to getting the fluid into the rear differential? I was afraid to start the mower since the trans was way to full of fluid in the main fill area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So no one has ever had this issue? The transmission area seems to be lower than the rear diff. Just need to know how to get fluid back to the rear diff. Will it hurt the machine to crank it with the transmission over filled? Like I said I have only put in 5 quarts or the recommend 8.

Do you have the owners manual? Could it be that you have to do something other than open the plug to release the fluid? Since you got more out than you can put back in, have you checked to see that you are putting the fluid into the right hole? None of this makes sense to me.

The curious thing is that you got more out than would go back in and that when you put 5 quarts out of 8 back in you dramatically overfilled it. It being overfilled tells me that it was less than 5 quarts low.

I had the same issue after puncturing the filter. Didn't know how much drained out, but only got 5 qts back in. Turns out I didn't drain the axles.

If you drain the axles and then refill from the top only, you can't get but about 5 quarts in before the center case is full. Start engine, let it idle a little, then turn it off. Check and add as necessary. Repeat if needed. It can take a while. When you're checking the level, wait for the oil to settle down, in other words if you see any bubbles on the stick, go have a cold beverage of your choice and then try again in a few minutes after the bubbles settle out.
