When it was time to change the oil and filter this spring, I did what I always have done for the last 24 years I have owned this BX1800, asked the Kubota dealer to sell me the correct oil filter and oil But when I opened the box with the new filter it was half the size of the old one. I returned it to the dealer and he showed me his computer saying it was the Kubota replacement for the old one. I showed him this photo and asked "but shouldn't it be the same or about the same size?" and he said yes, and swapped out the small one for the larger one. Can someone explain why Kubota would do this?

Something isn't adding up!

You have a HH150-32094 in front of you.
That filter shouldn't be on a BX1800!

The BX1800 used a HH150-32430 and a newer HH1J0-32430

So one of two things has happened, you either do not have a BX1800 or someone has swapped out the engine for a BX2200.

Provide the Tractor serial number and engine Model number and we will sort this out rather quickly.

Look around the injection pump for the engine serial number and model number.

I guess there is the possibility that someone has given you the wrong filter in the past and you've just used it.

Filters have two things to worry about the fit
1) The base of the filter must have the correct diameter for sealing and the correct thread to fit the base.
2) Size of the housing must be suitable to fit the space.

Then there is the filter media and capacity. Over the years the media has improved and filter size has decreased.

So there are a lot of filters that have two housing sizes, the larger size may have more filter area and holding capacity or it could just be using older filter media. I don’t know what the manufacturer does.

In this case you might want to look at Kubota USA illustrated parts lists and see what the correct filter number is. I think you could also find out what models both of those filter numbers fit. You may have to use Messicks for the second step.

I assume one is the correct old filter and one is the correct new filter so either could work fine.

My BX uses the HH150-32430 and I have the newer HH1J0-32430 on the shelf.

It does appear the newer Part Number is shorter than the original. Didn't measure, but is quite a bit shorter.

I agree with Wolfman, the HH150-32094 filter might be for a different tractor.
