Kubota L3250: Huge oil spill from behind the engine mounting.

Okay, I live in the UK, but the Tractor is at our place in France, so it stands for periods of up to a couple of months. Some while ago, when I returned, I started the tractor up and foolishly raised the three-point linkage attached to several bags of cement (overloaded) . I drove forward a few yards out of the garage it was stored in and immediately noticed a huge and obvious hydraulic oil leak. I suspect it had evacuated at pressure.

On investigation, I found a threaded hole hidden behind the engine mounting from which the oil had poured out. I then rightly or wrongly put a bolt into it to stop the leak and topped up the oil. The hydraulics now work fine, but every time I leave the tractor, there is always a small but constant drip from the underside of the Transmission from a small plug that has a plunger in the centre. The plunger is free, and this is where the leak is coming from. The plunger is the correct part as i checked with the French Kubota dealer.

Firstly, should I have blocked up the hole behind the engine mounting and secondly, can anyone shed any light on why it is leaking from the plug? I assume there should be some kind of vacuum that is not causing the plunger on the plug to close. (It's small).
Hope this makes sense. Any help, opinions appreciated. Thanks

Assuming the plug with plunger is in the bottom of the clutch area of the transmission case, that is a drain for whatever gets into the bell housing around the clutch. The plunger is a cotter pin through a hole in the plug. It wiggles around and keeps the hole open so liquids can escape.

In your case there is a leak of some type of oil, you didn’t mention if it is clear (transmission) or black (engine) that is dripping out. There is an engine crank seal and some transmission drive shaft seals that both can leak into that area. Depending upon where your other leak was at it may have been pumped from that leak into the case? So could be residual fluid that will stop eventually (but I doubt that is what it is).

You will need to post a picture of where you put the bolt to stop the leak you had. Perhaps that should be a vent hole and that pressure is building up in somewhere and causing leaks around the shaft seals.

You may need to get more than five posts before you can post a picture?

Thanks for the reply Russell . It's transmission fluid that is leaking through the plunger. I collect approximately 1 litre every time. This has been going on for over a year, every other month, to the point I filter the oil through fabric and re-add it to the system. I will try to post a pic next week of "hole" behind the engine mounting when I am reunited with the tractor. Thanks again, all advice welcomed
