Ever since replacing my fuel filter housing (the canister was busted), I've been having fuel issues with this tractor. Backstory: It's a 2015 I bought with 250 hours on it, and I've put 100 of my own hours on it in the last couple years. I busted the filter housing bush-hogging, and replaced with a whole new housing (not OEM). Bleeding the system was a chore (opening the bleed valve did little at first when following the WSM guidelines). I got frustrated and walked away for a couple hours leaving the valve open, and it finally started again. But it did not have the horsepower and stuttered horribly under PTO load. My assumption was that I must still have air in the system, so I cracked the nuts on the fuel lines to make sure fuel flowed and maybe bleed some air out. Tightened them back up, and now the tractor exhaust is heavy black/sooty, and the tractor will not turn off when you turn the key. What could I have done to cause unburned diesel and no shutdown (I solved shutoff issue by squezzing off fuel line)??

When you cracked the fuel lines, did you loosen the injector end of each line, or the injection pump end at the 3 IP outlets?

Hoping the injector end….loosening the pump side can throw it off as it can get the pump’s components (barrels?) out of proper position/alignment. Not well-versed on the issue; seen it here a few times. Could possibly explain the black exhaust.

Does the exhaust smell “Rich” like fresh diesel?

Not shutting off with the key is a quandary to me, unless coincidence but that is odd too.

I’m really guessing, so don’t take much as gospel.

Sounds like you messed with the fuel injection lines at the pump.

You Sir / Madam are now in need of a fuel injection pump rebuild!

Yes, sounds like it. I did mess with both ends of the lines. 😞

Rebuild sounds like I messed it up, but not beyond repair, I'm guessing? Can anyone point me to some guidance on an IP rebuild? Manual, video, etc. I'd also like to know more info on how I screwed up, for the sake of learning from my mistake.

It's not something you can rebuild, it's going to have to be take out and sent in to be rebuilt.
Most of the time the delivery valves get turned and damaged with not removing the injection lines properly.
You must hold the delivery valves stationary while removing the lines.

If you remove the injection pump to have it rebuilt, be very careful to remove and save all the shims under the pump as they set the timing.

Here is who I use:
For the injection pumps and injectors.
You might want to pull your injectors and have them rebuilt at the same time.

My theory is if you never try to fix something, you never mess things up.

If you say you fix things and never make mistakes, you're lying about one or the other.....;)

I fix things. I mess a lot of things up. It happens..... ;)

I have NO experience. A LOT of guys across USA here on OTT recommend these guys:

Oregon Fuel Injection | Diesel Parts Online | Rebuilt Diesel Injection Pumps

If you search their website on OTT using the Magnifying Glass at the top right corner, you will likely find lots of references for them.

Depending on your area, there could be a good shop with experience with IP's, etc.

Best wishes!
