I purchased a used Kubota L-235 and added a new 5 ft Land Pride rotary mower to use to cut a few overgrown fields and food plots. The 5th time I was using it to mow clover & weeds the tractor stopped moving. The mechanic that repaired it said that the main drive shaft sheared off about a foot from where it connects to the clutch assembly. He asked me if I hit anything big and I told him no. He mentioned that maybe the rotary mower I was using was too big for the tractor and maybe I wanted to consider buying a bigger tractor. The tractor is now repaired but I am worried that it will happen again if the mower is too larger for the tractor (is was very expensive to repair). According to the tractor's owner's manual, the tractor will handle a 5 ft rotary mower. I guess it is possible that the previous owner hit something and weakened the drive shaft. I also know that the rotary mower has a shear pin so that should prevent a shaft from breaking in the even I would hit something. Has anyone had a similar problem with this model or any other model Kubota of the same size (23.5 diesel)? Appreciate your help!

Thanks

If the owners manual says a 5 foot bush hog it shouldnt be a problem. You may want to put a new shear pin in. Sometimes some people will break those and replace them with whatever they have avaliable etc a hardened pin which may not shear.According to the following web site yours has 19.6 hp at the pto http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/001/2/8/1281-kubota-l235.html that should work but I might take smaller strips down if very high and large brush Someone else that owns a L235 may jump in shortly. Good luck. handy
