I fueled up my tractor and began mowing. After about 15 minutes it began losing power and exhausting a small amount of white smoke. I suspected a lack of fuel and replaced both fuel filters. Began mowing again, same results so I loosened the fuel cap to see if the vent was plugged, nope. I've replaced the air filter and installed a new fuel pump and each time it would run for 15-20 minutes then lose power except for the last run. This time the engine rpm went to almost idle speed and it was missing on one cylinder after the 15 minute run. I pulled the feeds off the injectors and the number 2 cylinder is getting no fuel. I have good flow to the injector pump (I tested it) and have to assume the pump is bad. Is it normal for a pump going bad to act like this. Why would it run fine for the initial period and then reduce power or quit?
I hesitate to assume a bad pump and rebuild it without any proof that it is bad. It's a D905 diesel manufactured in 2002.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for any help.
