I set my dollar amount double what I wanted, which gave me models that could work, but had to wait for similar tractors that fit my price ... I ended up going above my budget a bit, but I reasoned that they are not making anymore of these, and how much longer did I want to take a chance on finding another one this close, and not have to drive 500 or more miles to just look at one?
Originally when I stated "looking" back in December I thought I wanted 2wd, no loader, no cab, but a canopy would be nice ... Preference was John Deere, Kubota, Massey Ferguson in that order $10K budget ... After lots of asking questions, and getting a number of cases of poison ivy, insect bites, and the week before I bought, the A/C went out on my 2 month old Kenworth truck, took 4 days of suffering, then came home and brush hogged with my open station ... More poison ivy, more insects bites, sunburn, and just wore out from the heat and humidity, my older brother who has a cab said I wasn't getting any younger, and he wouldn't buy a tractor without one ... I decided to stretch my budget and get a cab ... Still don't think I need 4X4, but it's there ...
In all my research I decided 2006 was my cut-off for "no emissions, no computer " ... In the 25-75 HP range ... In 2008 there were some stuff being played with such a EGR's (Exhaust Gas Recirculating) which don't necessarily need a computer to control them, but are not needed as far as I'm concerned, by 2013 the final tier 4 was implemented, and most manufacturers went the route of DPF (filters/Regen) IIRC Mahindra raised the operating temperature and was able to get by with only a EGR ... Currently on some mid-sized tractors Massey Ferguson is able to get by with an EGR & DOC utilizing a computer controlled high pressure common rail (HPCR) ... They claim ... "The diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) that is designed to last for the life of the tractor."
