Kubota 3 point hitch falling

I think our B6100 tractor has a hydraulic issue. When I raise the hitch for the brush hog implement, the hitch will slowly fall down to the ground. The former owner thought there was a leak in the seals. Does anyone know the fix for this issue?

It probably tells you to do this in the manual but...:)

Run by a drug store and pick up some $.79 white nail polish!

Your 3-pt is probably similar to my L3800 3-pt though the control valve may be different. Look at the pictures on this thread http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17412&page=4

When you take the actuator arm loose you want to make sure they get back exactly on the same spline positions. A line of white paint across the spline and arm hub will tell you exactly which spline you were on when it comes time to put it all back together. In case a shaft gets rotated while you are working on the piston, this will remove worries for reassembly.

Take pictures and post 'em!!! Good luck and have fun!

I had the same issue with my B7200. You have to remember that these tractors are getting long in the tooth and that o-rings do not last for ever. Good news is that it is an easy fix. Remove the seat and seat mounting hardware. Remove the four bolts from the lift piston on the top cover. Remove the piston and replace the o-ring and backup ring. Make sure to hone the lift cylinder out before you re-install the lift piston with the fresh rings. This will ensure a good seal and that the new o-rings will not get cut on the scratches in the cylinder. Like I said I just did this on my B7200 and my box blade now stays up for days with no downward drift. Good Luck.

Great news by someone who has been there. Is this forum great or what?

Also, be sure to wipe out the piston cylinder with fresh fluid to get all the honing leftovers. Do it twice. Or three times!

And when you go to assemble it, coat both the rings and the cylinder with fresh fluid so nothing gets "boogered" when you reassemble the piston assembly.

Forgot to mention: If yours is like the 3800, the piston is not connected to the con rod. The rod fits in a dish in the base of the piston on my model. If you can rotate the 3-pt arms far enough, you may be able to drive the piston all the way out. The con rod self centers upon reassembly.
CJ8N would know better than I...

you guys are amazing! Thanks. It looks like it wont be complicated. I am replacing the throwout bearing right now and should have that finished by Saturday (waiting on a part). I'll take pictures and post it when I start on it next week. Thanks again!

I pulled off the seat and cover under the seat. I can see the piston in there. How do I get the piston to move outward so that I can change the o-rings? I tried lifting the 3 point hitch, but the piston will not move. Here is a picture of it and a diagram.

I would try cranking the engine over but not starting it and at the same time activating the lever to raise the 3 pt hitch. This will use the hydraulic pressure to push the piston out. You don't want to do this with the engine running as too much fluid and pressure will be generated.

Pack rags or a blanket to catch the piston and contain any oil.

HAHAHA, BAD IDEA!
You would just get a fluid bath as the fluid comes out and over via the tiny hole on the left of the base and on top of the piston, nothing behind it.
You really have 2 good options find a suction cup to grab the top of the piston or remove the top of the three point and push the piston out from the back.
Here is one long shot option, air in the vent of the rear end might push it out, but don't use too much pressure as it will blow other seals out too.

I tried lifting the 3 point hitch,
You need to push down on the lift arms- (arms up-piston down, arms down, piston up) might have to remove all the 3pt stuff. That should get the piston to the top, then I used a big magnet to pull it out. Mine had an o-ring & a backing ring, that drawing only shows the o-ring. ??
And that oil looks nasty.

There was a change mid production that went from one to the other, both are right for that model.
The back up ring is an upgraded design.;)
