I was given this Kubota 2201DT if I could get it running. It had a frost plug leak and dead alternator.
We got a huge dump of snow early in the winter. It was clear and cold I jumped on our 2201DT gave it some glow plug and it starts right up. I started pushing snow, cleared the road to my shop and I started to notice the front tires were rubbing on the brace below the hydraulic cylinders. Something was wrong.
I back bladed about 500 feet to my shop and backed right in. When I turned around I then noticed the oil pressure light was ON - I shut the engine off. Then I noticed a black line in the snow into my shop and then the missing Oil Filter.
While looking at where the missing oil filter mounted I saw that the front plate that the bucket brace mount was broken off and would need welding back to the frame.
I walked out following the oil line in the snow and found the filter, I cleaned it off. It seems the front tire rubbed the filter and unscrewed it when I was backing up when the wheel lock over when I snagged a buried log under the snow.
I added fresh oil and tried to screw the old filter back on. Would not fit slightly twisted out of shape. I ordered new a new filter using that number. While waiting I hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge using flex grease gun hoses tee’d with the light
Hoping for the best when the filter gets here.
New filter arrives and I can only get one thread to start- so I look up what filter it should have (Wix 51034)(not Wix 51064 that was on it). Proper filter arrives it fits and I cross my fingers and start it up and get 90 psi pressure cold and it runs at 60 psi
I feel that it has a pretty amazing engine to run without oil pressure for so long.
We put the tractor in the air on the hoist and welded the built in nuts on the inside of the plate then welded it to the frame.
I treated the whole machine to fresh oil and filters and grease all around ready for the summer.
cheers
Hank
