Hy all, besides riding the old Kubota I got special feelings for old woodworking machines. Old cast iron, to heavy to lift, that kind of stuff. I referbish them and put them in use in my workshop. Last week I restored an old mortiser. See the pica below.

Anybody else who does this?

That is awesome!!! Down along the Monongahela River about 20 south of me, there was an old wood shop. They made everything there in the 1800's from bedroom furniture to picture frames, the oval ones dry sinks the whole nine yards. Anyway it closed and was abandoned for at least a hundred years with all the machines still inside, the family never touched it after it closed around 1910. Word got out they were going tear it down and scrap everything inside. The local historical soc. got involved and made it some kind of historical landmark. After years of refurbishing the building and equipment it was opened as a living museum. And the old guys that worked there did everything just like they did back in the day, oh yeah it was steam powered too. Though they never did get the steam running. Sadly it has been closed, due to lack of funding to keep it open. Really sad at least it was to me

Our local Cave Creek Welding has a big collection of antique metal working tools mixed in with modern machines like hydraulic cutters and computer-driven plasma cutters. They are all out under cover and have a wonderful patina on them. I gotta run over and pick up some pieces they fabbed up for me today. I'll try to get some pictures. I loved the old stuff.

I share your interest in older machinery but mostly on the metal working side. The quality put into some of these machines is impressive! Though its not a hobby for me to restore machines, I did do a couple of restorations on a lathe and an arbor press.

On any you may do in the future, please post your progress with lots of pictures. Its fun watching these come together!
